Saturday, February 25, 2012 - Cousin Dave opened this when I picked up a bunch of wine from his cellar. Dark fruited, lots of sediment in the glass, tannins still present, blackberry palate. There is no way one would mistake this for a Rhone wine, but then again, the oak is not overt and the alcohol is in check. As it airs and warms to room temperature, the wine seems to soften and Syrah tire rubber notes emerge, yet the tannins still have a hold on the palate. Overall, rather one-dimensional. I can't see this becoming any more compelling with additional age.
