Community Tasting Note

Incredibly dark, compact, brooding - fantastic purity of fruit with pencil load, liquorice, black fruit and impressive depth. This needs much longer in bottle to unwind. Brilliantly compact and huge and long. I wonder what this tasted like when it was first released? Massive I would have imagined.

11/28/2013 11:20:00 AM - I saw your comment about what this was like when released. Well I was a 30 year old just getting into wines, but this was my 1st special wine purchase. The people that introduced me to wine always said if it's not balanced in youth, it will not be balanced in maturity. I still live by that adage.

Needless to say this wine was perfectly balanced. I consumed the whole case in one year, layers and layers of dark black sweet fruits is what I remember. The 1st bottle I had with a beer and cheddar soup with crusty bread, love at first sip.

11/28/2013 12:54:00 PM - That is a brilliant brilliant story - I love it. Especially the bit about drinking them all within a year - I can relate to that!!

When we drank the wine last year it was beautiful but seriously serious - this wine will last for another 40 years. Now you'll need to remortgage the house to buy a case. It might just be worth it!
