Does not like this wine:

84 Points

Saturday, March 19, 2016 - Purchased this bottle from a reputable merchant with assured provenance several years ago. Stored at 5 degrees elevation at 56 and 70% avg humidity in an active cellar. Decanted to a wide bowl decanter for 2 hours after coming to room temperature. No detectable faults on the nose such as TCA, Brett, etc... In fact the wine had an intriguing nose of crushed blueberry, menthol, vanilla taffy, and sweet sugar plums. When it hit the taste buds the dissapointment started. Highly acrid and bitter with little fruit suggestion. Similar to an aged left bank claret with none of the secondary notes of truffle, leather, soil, or pleasant tertiary nuance. Maybe this needs more bottle time but I am not seeing the evolution here. If you love Ribera wines you will be better off with the beautiful Emilio Moro single vineyards ( eg... Sanchomartin ) at one third the tariff. I realize these are collectible wines, but I enjoy consuming great wine at this price point rather than just admiring labels.
