Thursday, April 29, 2010 - 1998 Burgundy Grand Crus - Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin Singapore, Chapitre de la Printemps (Harbour Grill, Hilton Hotel): Always one of Rosseau's weaker Grand Crus, this was decently good, but certainly not great. Rather clearly identitifable as the Rousseau in the pack once we were told this was a Charmes flight I thought, but the others in the table were so disappointed by the general standard that they guessed otherwise. Nose showed lots of sappy, sweetish red fruit smells, all deep and fragrant, with some meat at the edges. Quite nice indeed. Palate was rather simpler and less layered than the nose suggested though. Again, sweetish red fruit, nice purity, well balanced, but all rather leanish for a Grand Cru. Still though, I appreciated that nice sense of poise and balance on the wine, and the way it was very nicely integrated, transitioning rather seamlessly into a longish, open finish.
