Sunday, February 5, 2012 - Decanted and consumed over the course of about three hours. The wine has a surprising red color turning to brick/burnt orange on the rim. Immediately after being decanted the nose showed stewed fruit, wet tobacco, cedar and black tea, which gained complexity and power over the course of the night. The palate is medium bodied (I expected more on the palate) with notes of old book, mushroom, forest floor, plum flesh, baked blueberry, black tea and very refined, almost papery tannins. Once paired with medium-rare flank steaks, the palate took on more heft and substance and a familiar balsamic vinegar note. The finish was medium, though very pleasant. This wine is at it's peak now, though will remain here for some time. Definitely a great bottle!
