Saturday, January 2, 2010 - 1. (Immediately after opening.) Extremely powerful aromas of red raspberries and vanilla, red currant, and a bite of dark licorice and brown spices (and maybe even brown sugar?). On the palate, layers upon layers of different red fruit, with a very satisfying backdrop of black licorice. Where are the tannins? Finishes long. 2. (30 minutes after opening.) Ripe red fruits on the nose (cherries, currants, hint of strawberry). Vanilla seems to have dissipated (dirty glassware?). On the palate, more of the red fruits, now balanced nicely with the acidity. Licorice and spices remain.
