Monday, August 19, 2013 - Dark cherry red, clinging heavily to the glass. Very shy nose, a little damp earth, alcohol fumes and faint plummy fruit. Not giving much more on the palate, medicinal cherry fruit, intense and prickly acidity, and considerable heat. Very bitter tannins and loads of stemmy cherry through the exceptionally long finish. Overall an awkward wine at present, likely to improve with another 10 years in the cellar, but possibly not destined for greatness as the stuffing doesn't seem to be there to maintain balance, at least in this bottle. The huge structure makes this barely drinkable now, with a very long decant. 12.5% abv
