At cellar temperature, its acidity made it seem tart, but as it warmed, this receded to reveal an exceptionally well balanced, classic, completely savory southern Rhone. It's been 3 years since I last tasted this, but I was struck as much now as I was then by how much lighter in weight and how much more angular in structure this wine is compared to more recent vintages. Take your pick, but personally, I would unequivocally cast my vote for this style, which sacrifices nothing in terms of flavor yet provides a better match with food and more refreshment. I can't see it getting significantly better from here (since its fruit seems on the verge of fading) and accordingly, I will try to accelerate consumption of my remaining bottles.
