Monday, November 12, 2012 - Dinner with Mark Roberson of Goedhuis (Jade Palace, Forum Galleria): This was very good indeed. An excellent end to an excellent evening. It nosed for all the world like a left-bank Bordeaux from a warm year, with tobacco and toasted earth aromas floating alongside ripe cherries and cassis - lovely stuff. The palate was gorgeous too, perhaps leaning a little more towards Napa than the Medoc in its lovely flavours of dried cherries and cassis carried on a stream of juicy acidity and a firm structure of ripe tannins that gave the impression of just starting to mellow and round-out. What got the group really confused though was how clean, clear and effortless this seemed, something that one normally associates with a top Bordeaux. Great finish too - long, structured and beautifully balanced, with black cherry flavours stretching away into the distance with just the littlest puff of tobacco. dried cherries, cassis, firm structure, starting to mellow, clean, clear, some ripeness, but beautiful balance, long finish, black cherries. Gorgeous, and it could actually do with some time in the bottle still. This will be absolutely stunning given a couple more years I think.
