Thursday, February 4, 2016 - Madeira Pilgrimage; 2/1/2016-2/4/2016 (Madeira): Whoa – there is some serious volatile acidity on this nose, with sharp polished wood, a bit intense. Luckily, the palate is quite balanced despite the assertive nature of the VA. Coffee, almond cake, chocolate and orange peels like crazy. Despite the way these notes may come across, I actually really liked this wine, but it’s definitely brash and a bit abrasive. The only wine in this lineup that seemed a bit out of place.
