Monday, February 23, 2015 - Decanted for well over 3 hours by a Somm friend. Shared this at a Sommelier Challenge at Acanto Restaurant in Chicago. For a 2001 Cabernet that has been quite controversial - it fared pretty well. Huge dark deep red color. Hint of coffee, tar, black licorice, smoke, and blackberry. For all the talk of heat on the initial palate, i would concur- that was still there after 3 hours+ of decanting. This wine is huge, robust, yet overall solid structure with some elegance. Will only get better with more bottle age.
