flawed

Thursday, December 24, 2009 - I returned this wine to K&L as corked, but the guy there said it was not. Assuming so, this wine is really as close to corked as it could get. It had a brownish red (well it is 8yr old) color, pretty light and clear though, and it had some smokiness. If it was not corked this must have been extremely wet wood taste with some lightly smoky aroma (ala port) but still the ugliest Rioja I ever had. I hope it was corked. The K&L guy gave me two different bottles as replacement, and the one I had first - $10 cheaper then this wine - was really good with nice acidity mid-heavy weight and sweet tannins. It's called Vigna Magna, crianza from Ribera del duero vintage 2002. (Editor's note: marking as flawed)
