Saturday, April 24, 2010 - From the folks at Alexander Valley Vineyards, this Bordeaux blend is arguably their top wine. It's made from a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. 2% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot and I have to say I was happy to see Malbec as a component. It's used far too infrequently for my liking, and I have loved every Bordeaux blend I've tried that contains it! The blend then spends 24 months in French oak followed by 8 months in the bottle. The resulting wine is dark purple in colour. The nose is very Rioja-esque: broody berry fruits, lashings of oak and a touch of tobacco. The palate is full bodied, smooth and intense. It shows blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar and a touch of smoke and rubber. The finish is long and dry. Absolutely delicious.
