89 Points

Wednesday, November 19, 2014 - Afgan Kebobs - Home away from Home: Drink most of the 03s now I would say. This was quite nice - but, having tasted several 03s lately, they really are aging faster than one would expect. I have a few more but plan to drink them sooner than later.

On the other hand - this wine has some excellent points... even going against serious competition. The nose is the strange part - very amarone - with sweet plums and ripe, prune-like notes with touch of chocolate. BUT the palate had a lot more balance - with ripe but fresh fruit and great acidity. (having some as i write on Day 2 and there is little change) Dry finish with a touch of tannic grip and nice tangy acids, the mid is ripe - with red fruit dominating. I would say that it is showing a touch cleaner today but it is also not head to head with the Fontodi... This is not past peak - but i wouldnt leave the 03s around too long.

Overall - the cherry and plums in the mid, together with refreshing acidity make this a good, though not great wine.
