2002 Dehlinger Pinot Noir Estate

Community Tasting Note

Does not like this wine:

Friday, September 25, 2015 - Wine was purchased from Vinfolio. Perfectly stored. Corks even looked like they were pushed in yesterday. All that being said and having had to force myself to plow through almost a case of this wine over the past year and give some bottles away just to get it out of my cellar...I don't know what the hell other people are tasting and actually believing in this notion that overripe California Pinot can actually age well...this is way over the hill, disjointed, super ripe borderline undrinkable similar to an old overripe Zinfandel. All bottles showed the same. I really wanted to like this and it's not a knock on the producer but typically when you age a wine and wait and wait to taste it in hopes that it's slowly gaining complexity and will reward you and your company with a wonderful elegant tasting experience...well, it's disappointing but not surprising. Drink these wines young and don't believe all the home biased bullshit that these actually age well, they don't. It's just the truth. If you want a complex, intriguing, elegant drinking experience from an aged wine, then drink the three B's; Burgundy, Bordeaux and Barolo. Sorry to rant and pick on Dehilinger (it's really nothing personal) but sometimes you just gotta call it what it is and cut the bullshit.
