Tuesday, February 12, 2013 - CNY Dinner 2013 - Welcoming the Year of the Snake (William & Gina's): Beautiful yet again, this would have been my wine of the night if not for the equally good, or perhaps even better bottle of 2001 Prieur Roch Clos de Beze served side-by-side. The Damoy had a wonderful nose, with tons of flowers, sweet red cherries and raspberry aromas, a little curl of spice and herby angelica root - just wow. The palate was wonderful too. Just about coming into its peak window, it showed gloriously sappy notes of red cherries and raspberries on the attack and midpalate, all perfectly integrated with velvety tannins and fresh, bright acidity, which lent the wine a sense of a fine, firm structure. This was really pristine, elegant wine, with a typical 2001 feel of litheness and clarity to it. It finished strongly too - fresh and lively, with a mouthfilling perfume of flowers, spice and lingering red fruit. Really great now, but it should be absolutely fantastic in a couple more years. A beautiful Beze.
