Sunday, January 7, 2007 - A few Sunday burgs at Jeffs house.: One of my bottles of the 02 Leroy Beaux Monts was a leaker, so I wanted to open it rather than store it. Pulled off the wax to find that the edges of the bottle tip seemed to be just slightly broken. Was this the possible reason for the leak? To be sure we didn't drink glass, we carefully strained the wine through a paper coffee filter. The nose was extremely funky, and the initial impression was that it might be spoiled. We brought it to Jeff's house anyway. Surprise! Not spoiled at all. This just needed some time in the decanter. On the nose, the words that come to mind are smoke and spice. This carried over into the palate as well. An interesting combination of fruit, smoke, spice - and very, very intense. Yes, intense it the right word. Drinking very well now. Will this be a wine that's open throughout its early life?
