Sunday, December 28, 2008 - Not being a regular Pinot drinker, this one was a bit of an epiphany for me. Tasted along side the two reserve Pinots at Iron Horse, this was the lighter bodied (and lighter colored) of the bunch. But I think it confirmed what I'm starting to learn: in terms of the fruit forward Cali style Pinot, I prefer the lighter bodied style. That's not to say the darker, fruitier Pinots won't develop into something wonderful after aging. It's just the lighter style is so elegant and complex from the get-go.

What really pulled me in here was the herbs. They were on the nose, then they hit full force again right before the finish. The palate was seamless and the finish long. Of course there's plenty of red fruit and body to the wine, but it's the pronounced earthiness that really hits home. $45 is a bit steep for a wine that begs for youthful drinking, but I regret not purchasing this at the winery.
