Thursday, December 31, 2009 - Decanted for several hours.
Dark, inky purple/garnet. Was not showing any age visually.
The nose was wonderful with dried flowers, well-seasoned leather, thyme and hints of garrigue, concentrated dark berries. Nice roasted earth aspect. While it was taking on some secondary aromas, it was still remarkably fresh and vibrant.
The palate was still bright with black fruits. The fruits did have an earthy, leathery aspect to them. Nice minerals and almost a dark roasted coffee hint. The tannins were integrated well and provided great structure. Incredibly complex, with so many miles to go yet.
This was poured back into the bottle, and revisited 48 hours later: The nose was still wonderfully vibrant with little change. Maybe more violets and more pronounced leather notes. The palate was still fresh and while there may have been a little softening, it pretty much held up for the 2 days.
