Tuesday, December 25, 2012 - The notes here are useful and accurate. This wine is now getting ready to drink. I decanted 2 hours before the dinner. The texture is particularly noteworthy: dense, velvety, seamless. Perfect integration of oak. Nice acid-alcohol-fruit balance. On the palette, ripe but not jammy black fruits, esp. blackberry, are interwoven with a pleasant herbal component (garrigue). The finish is medium long and earthy. It is concentrated but not heavy. It lacks the additional complexity to warrant an extraordinary rating. I expect it to develop more and maybe achieve a higher score but it will never reach 1961 level. I matched it with roasted tenderloin and broiled matsutake and it worked well for the Christmas dinner.
