99 Points

Tuesday, May 27, 2008 - I know. I rated this 99 and the 90 Pavillion 98+, but said the Pavillion surpassed this. It's true. This wine had an even-keeled, open, mulberry, earthy, iron complexity that by itself would have won praises. Still, somehow not quite as precise and blazing as the Pavillion. Tonight, Michel's Opus stole the show. Somehow laid back. May last longer, but I'm not even sure of that. Will this ever really spill over the edge to mind-blowing, grab your face, up-frontness? 10-20 years will tell. Make no mistake, a profound wine.
