Monday, November 16, 2015 - Menthol on the nose. On the palate, this was closed down at first -- there was some red fruit and a bit of mint, but not much else; there was no noticeable tannin and only a hint of acid on the short to medium finish. After two to three hours this opened up with cherry, blackberry, cocoa, and black pepper, with noticeable drying tannins and good acidity on the medium finish. This is an excellent wine that is still a few years from entering its drinking window; the Cellartracker consensus is much too early. It has thrown some sediment, so decanting for a few hours is a good idea now, and recommended even a few years from now when this starts to open up. The peak is probably five years or more away.
