Monday, October 6, 2008 - On the occasion of Max and Debbie's visit, which Scott accompanied perfectly with wild salmon with a porcini mushroom and thyme sauce. The color was a very fresh deep, opaque purple. The nose was initially black fruits and a little bit of spice, but after an hour or two in the glass, the black fruits were joined by some notes of raspberry and violet, and the spice by a more forward black pepper aroma. The finish had a very appealing mineral note. There was still a strong tannic backbone, but mellow enough to allow pleasurable drinking . Beautiful balance. I think this wine has entered a lovely drinking window, but we will be in no rush to drink the remaining bottles.
