Thursday, September 24, 2009 - Respi-Aerate to decanter. Garnet with dark dusty purple hues. Initial nose was tight, with potting soil, minerals, and typical raspberry-strawberry notes. I wish we had opened this earlier or consumed it slower, because by the end of the bottle at the 3 hour mark, there was a distinct aroma of crispy bacon in the bouquet that was lovely. In the mouth sweet and sour cherries swirl around a backbone of minerals, plus a bit of earth and herb. Medium length finish of dried cherries and a sandy drying effect at the tail. Medium-plus acid, some tightness in the tannins on the back end suggests this may be better with another year's rest. Overall excellent and well composed. Not as complex as I was hoping, but has potential to show more with time. Very good value at 16.
