90 Points

Monday, November 16, 2009 - Still young, needs time, but this was the best showing yet, especially with the glasses poured from the bottle past the 2-hour mark. Very nice nose on first pour - with meaty plums, savoury notes of red meat and soy sauce, ripe cherries and lots of dusty earth, garrigue and minerals. With time, the brambly garrigue and stony mineral came to the fore more and more. Palate had a bit of alcohol here and there, but minimal enough for it to come across as clean and precise, with fresh, mandarin orangey acidity and a fine, rather firm, powdery tannin structure. Obviosuly old vines here, because there was lots of concentration in cranberry and cherry flavours, along with garrigue, spice and orange peel, fading into a fresh, mineral-laden finish. Excellent pairing with Lap Mei Fan (claypot rice with waxed meats). Otherwise, not terribly complex at this point of time, almost a little narrow at points, but with enough to entertain. Lots to like here. It certainly would benefit from time - a good 5-6 years more I think. An excellent CdR.
