Thursday, January 1, 2009 - Surprisingly deep colour - good medium ruby, touched with caramel throughout, and a broad tapering rim showing quite a bit of brick/orange. Gentle nose of cassis with soft, smokey, chocolate tones, a nice leafy touch and a wisp of game. Smooth, sweet and briary mouth entry. Quite firm and grippy on the mid-palate, with damson fruit and a touch of caramel. Chocolatey, earthy touches, and a little warm on the finish. Not an easy wine, but a solid, pleasing companion at the dinnner table. ***
