Wednesday, August 29, 2012 - Opened a bottle -- perhaps a bit prematurely -- as research in connection with the pending Rhys offer. Part of me wanted not to like this, given the ever increasing prices of the Rhys offerings. But, damn, this bottle was fabulous. On a different plane than the vast majority of California pinot.
On the nose, orange peel, brown spice, clove, cardamom, cranberry, flowers and wet rock. Awesome. Great tension in the mouth, with grippy tannin fighting bracing acidity, all wrapped around a core of pure cherry with a hint of wild berry and a limestone edge.
Just a baby. Give this a few more years, and watch out!
