Saturday, January 22, 2011 - Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2008 Tasting (The Barker Hangar – Santa Monica, CA): Extremely ripe on the nose with aromas of lavender, licorice, and currant. The palate is surprisingly dense and extracted with earth and herb driven fruit lashed by firm tannins and acidity. At first I thought this had surprising fruit density compared to other recent offerings from Lynch Bages but then the wine finished somewhat thin. Quite perplexing as I think this has potential but it comes across as a bit of an enigma right now. 90+?
