Thursday, February 27, 2014 - Montrose tasting with Herve Berland (HK Wine Vault): The 2008 Montrose is a very good one, but trying it after the 2010 and 2005 vintages certainly make it appear a notch below. Dark ruby, aromatics of fresh red fruits, spice, licorice, hint of mint and floral. Not as complex or deep as the other two vintages, but most approachable among the three and very pleasant. Medium mouth feel, red fruit dominated palate with notes of tobacco and orange zest. Tannins are not intruding, but carries a slight greenish note. Alcohol note seems a bit disjointed and can use some time to integrate.

    Must have been really enjoyable.
Did you enjoy these wines blind or did you know which wine you had in each glass?

3/13/2014 6:44:00 PM - Thanks StefanAkiko. It really was a nice tasting event, especially got to taste a few good vintages brought in from the chateau, esp the 2010, which I know I won't touch my own bottles till many years later. 2008 is one for earlier drinking among the vintages tried, 2005 is close to 2010 in style, yet with five more years in age, its flavor is really quite nice and purchased a few bottles afterwards. It was not a blind tasting, more leaning towards a promotional event, Montrose CEO would like to further extend their reputation and reach in Far East, glad some of us got to try these splendid wines. Cheers
