Saturday, April 11, 2015 - Decanted for 2.5 hours. A pretty dark garnet color, far from opaque. A very beautiful, most typical nose of ripe sour cherry, tar, smoke and sweet mushroom. The last one really balances nicely the typical dryness and savoriness of the nose. Just a fantastic wine to sniff! On the palate surprisingly lean and light on its feet but definitely not thin. Extremely juicy, vivid and energetic, while still seriously structured with high acidity and somewhat grainy, gripping tannins. Bursting with dry cherry fruit, possessing the sort of joie de vivre that the best natural Beaujolais have. Magnificently combines strong presence and weightlessness. How can a wine this structured feel so mouth-caressing? Really traditional yet not austere at all. Excellent with beef tenderloin and Appenzeller Extra, but really excellent without also. I didn't want to buy into the hype but this is just Sangiovese at its purest, at a price that is funny. I just might have to get a case of this.
