Tuesday, August 23, 2011 - This is drinking great. The black pepper aromatics are really showing nicely, giving the nose a pungent tone. The palate is smooth, with dark fruit laid over the citrusy Rosella's profile, along with just a faint hint of chocolate but the finish is all about citrus, pepper and a mix of red and black fruit. This is what Rosella's should taste like, a mixture of opulence and cool climate married together....so to close out this note, this being the 3rd day the wine has been open, enjoying the last glass. There is an added element of meatiness tonight, which in the context of the pepper component, adds a nice combo of flavors. Also helping add more rounding to the notes is a soily element, a loamy note that lies in the finish. As I have said time and time again, this vineyard has true personality, and Adam has been working it for a long time now. A cellar staple for me and within my CA syrah experience, a core wine year after year.
