Sunday, April 25, 2010 - Great nose, very complex and aromatic, dominated by a smoky character, a bit of raisin in the background along with an animalistic note. Really intoxicating, I could just hold this glass to my nose all night long.
Unfortunately, the palate falls way short of the promise that the nose teases at. An interesting pepper note and a long finish suggest some promise down the road. But today, this is fairly one dimensional and lacks fruit to stand up to a somewhat bitter flavor profile. 87 points Day 1.
Update: Day 2 - much better. The tight bitterness has largely faded, and the fruit is much more evident, though in the place of the bitterness is a somewhat bracing acidity. Perhaps this will continue to round out with time. 89 points Day 2. An interesting wine and decent QPR at the price point ($20). If it smooths out, it will be a great QPR.
