Monday, January 28, 2013 - Not the flabby merlots poked fun at in Sideways. Pride is an excellent example of why merlots are edging back into the mainstream.
The 2007 (and all of Pride's merlots) is a big wine oriented towards those who like the California "fruit bombs". However, the mocha-cherry notes are well balanced enough to garner broader appeal. One key highlight includes the "density" behind this wine which which is a true standout to competitors in its field, giving it a lot of texture and feel.
The $55 pricepoint is a touch steep for the variety, but this transgression can be forgiven due to the unique nature and high impact of this wine.
