Wednesday, September 1, 2010 - Decanted for four hours.
Rather fruity on the nose with notes of carambola, pineapple and ripe banana. Also giving some creme brulée -like sugary notes, butter and nutty toastiness.
Dry and medium bodied on the palate with a somewhat greasy feel and balanced acidity. Ginger, butter and minerals before the decent length finish giving mushroomy earthiness and both spicy and nutty oak notes.
Although well decanted, the wine was changing quite a bit over the course of the dinner. Perhaps with more time it will settle down and get more relaxed. Anyway already a nice pairing with fried scallops, shiitake and whitefish in champagne sauce.
