86 Points

Sunday, February 1, 2015 - Light golden straw color. Smells lots if cheese, honey, brie, cabbage and elderberry flowers. It tastes a bit acidic, a bit weak and unbalanced. The wine suffers a bit from being served blind next to a Leflaive village Puligny '08 which was undisputed white WOTN. After a while lemons dominate the palate, and it seems thin and chemical. Anaemic and disappointing. Guessed Chablis blind, but would never guess this was a grand cru. Very disappointing.

2/8/2015 11:44:00 AM - We discussed this over the table. Could it be an inferior bottle, or the fact that this producer has a better reputation than it should have. I think it's probably a combination. But there were no signs of the bottle being bad. Just weak and a bit boring. And as stated initially, it came right after the WOTN and suffered greatly from that fact. The Leflaive was utterly fantastic. As for bottle history, it has been stored under perfect conditions since it's release.

2/8/2015 12:05:00 PM - Thank you for taking time to comment further on your notes. As can always be the case, our experience last week with this wine was good, but then we weren't up against Laflaive. I have two more of the Dauvissat 08 and I'll try another in the next year or so and repost. Certainly a good idea to follow others notes as this evolves.

2/8/2015 12:13:00 PM - I must confess it felt strange to give this bottle such a low score after seeing what other tasters has given it earlier. I wondered for a while if I should label it as flawed, but I don't think that's correct. An inferior bottle perhaps, but no faults. Thank you for commenting.
