Tuesday, July 21, 2009 - Leiden tasting July 2009: My first Montrachet. Impressive wine, very balanced, great weight, kept on developing after opening showing a different taste and nose in time. Golden colour. Nose started minerally with some nuttiness, later on much fuller with different nuts, butter and citrus, in the end nuts and more developed fruit (pineapple and pear). Taste: lovely balance between acidity, fruits, different nuts and touches of vanilla, caramel and cream in different layers with a mineral core, so much going on, sometimes difficult to describe, changing all the time. Followed by an finish that seemed endless and gave the opportunity to think back at what you had actually tasted in the different layers of the wine. Wonderful.
