Sunday, July 12, 2015 - 375ml at home with the Lees. It has been some years since I last had this and it is in very good form indeed. If anything, it has mellowed into a subtler, less outwardly hedonistic wine, and it is all the better for that. On the nose, notes of brown sugar and mineral and spice are now started to come to the fore form beneath more primary scents of dried apricots and sultanas. Same thing on the palate too. The sweet honey and dried apricots and mangoes were still there in charming fashion, showing off the summery warmth of the vintage, but there was a nice sense of balance and complexity really showing, with gentle citrus shades and more of the spice and mineral picked up on the nose stretching out into a subtly mouthwatering finish lined with bittersweet orange peel. This is just starting to hit the point where great Sauternes show their ageless beauty, and it was very good indeed.
