Monday, August 25, 2014 - The Eatery: compared the 2005 based GC disgorged in 2012, with the 2006 based disgorged in 2013 (will cellar tracker users begin separating GC by ID number??!):
2005 (ID 421044): disgorged in 2012, 44% PN, 37% Chard; oldest reserve is 1990.
Amazing nose of ripe apples, brioche, baked apple, hint of caramel, subtle salinity, sourdough and zucchini bread; full flavored, expansive, yet crisp acidity; fine bubbles, tons of character, very long finish. Wonderful, rich wine, and surprisingly great with the oysters!
2006 (ID 213032): disgorged in 2013, 44% PN, 35% chard; oldest is 1990--reserve wines help give this uniform vintage more character. Fine with more of a green apple character, still intense with a slightly more elegant feel. Less complex than the 2005-based, which I prefered over the 2006. Fun comparison and goes to show how each GC purchased at the same time, can be noticeably different.
