Wednesday, April 22, 2015 - Cheval Blanc and D'Yquem dinner with Pierre Lurton and Bernard Burtschy (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): Obviously very different than Cheval Blanc. Big scale nose displaying acidic black fruits, pine, tar, bitter chocolate, graphite and scorched earth. Excellent concentration, silky ripe black fruits driven palate impression, mineral, tar and ash, piercing acidity and nicely integrated tannins. It may sound like an oxymoron but it tasted like a nicely aged Malbec.
