Sunday, April 5, 2015 - Still mostly ruby but with some brick at the rim. Elegant and in great condition on the nose, with a subtle, classic, developing Bordeaux bouquet of cigar box, leather, and fresh and dried black cherry fruit, plus some baking spice from well integrated oak and perhaps a bit of mushroom. Somewhat less expressive and showing more age on the palate, mostly because the fruit is really fading into the background. There’s still a bit of cherry/currant juice there, but only just. The cedar and tobacco come through nicely though, and it still boasts a good coat of tannin on its medium-bodied, classically proportioned frame. The spice and oak show themselves on the finish, which is nice and dry, with good balance and length.

I’m surprised how developed it is on the palate given the color and the nose, but probably no reason to risk letting this go much longer. It’s drinking well now and showing some good class but not a whole lot more promise.
