Thursday, February 14, 2013 - Big dark fruit nose, cherry, blueberry, rosemary, menthol, dark chocolate, oak. These flavors create a powerful but delicious aroma. Medium weighted with bright acidity and late, gritty tannin that only grips the cheeks and gums. Young dark fruit shows on the palate, freshly picked blackberries, raspberry tartness, cherry juice. The integration between these flavors and the acidity in the finish is quite nice, ending with a sense of freshness. Surprising on the palate considering the nose, this is all about showing a good expression of fruit flavor with minimal oak. There is a sense of stony minerality in the finish that is nice, like crushed stone, perhaps an effect of the tannin. I don't detect any heat like you find on some Oregon wines from 2006, also not showing any signs of age in my opinion. Long finish with lingering tart fruit. Overall this is great wine. This absolutely killed it with pan-fried vegetables and steak, and here after dinner I find the wine interesting on it's own. I need to seek out more wines from this producer, the small amount of wines I have had from them I have really enjoyed so far.
