Community Tasting Note

Sunday, January 25, 2015 - In a blind tasting with '07 Voge Cornas VV. This won at dinner by 4-2. Opened 2.5 hours beforehand. To make sure it wasn't damaged, I tasted non-blind. The acids were almost like a top St. Joseph, but the rest was iron, wet slate, ranier cherry and black cherry. Little herbal tinge. After time, this added some gamier notes and the acid was a little less crunchy, but this was a bright, mouth cleaning wine all night. With the rich food (off the hook prime rip, parsnip puree, roasted brussel sprouts), I think the higher acid gave it the edge. Not oaky, really nice and dense even with the red fruits and acids, very easy to drink. I wish I had more so I could match up against Myriad, Jemrose, Halcon, Apsara (probably the most like this) and some other favorite cool-climate Syrah. This has years to go, despite my friend Emark's note, but fine now.
