Saturday, May 11, 2013 - Pulled this 2003 RRV pinot from a dark forgotten corner of my cellar. Now coming up on 10 years old, and I see that there hasn't been a tasting note written on this for about 3 years, so yes, it is a straggler of sorts. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a wine with some fascinating reduced elements - its rich fruit now maturing. No disjointed elements, no excessive heat, no pummeling over the head with Parkeresque extraction. The alcohol levels and new oak that almost certainly were there (it was 2003 in California after all) have now faded to the background, and a more graceful, mature lady has emerged. Subtle bricking at the edges. I only wish I had another bottle to try in 2 more years, just for curiosity's sake.
