90 Points

Wednesday, October 15, 2014 - On opening this was a little closed or tight. It took an hour or so before the aromatics and palate started to show off. 3+ hours in the nose shows dark chocolate, young blackberries, ripe black currant and a hint of toffee. Medium-bodied. The slightly under-ripe blackberries and currants show on the palate with a light sense of richness as the wine finishes. The acid is balanced and the tannins are present but are gentle and do not overwhelm the flavors. The finish isn't intense but drags on for a good time, I'm finding a rich flavor on the palate long after I swallow that I can't put my finger on. J says "the flavor on the finish is bitter orange, walnut skins and a bit of dark chocolate". Overall, this is good wine considering the price point, at $36 I consider it a buy. Going over the 100 point scale help page, I would put this somewhere between "very good" and "excellent", so 90 points sounds good.
