Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - $110 restaurant price. Fairly light, very youthful color. Slightly reluctant nose of fresh red fruit fruit and light spice. More of the same on the palate. I hesitate to use the term "Burgundian", as it's probably overused when describing Charvin's wines; plus, this clearly has more southern heat and weight in the mouth. However, there is a certain Pinot quality - cherry fruit and a lightness / suave texture - to this wine that recalls Burgundy. Reminds me a bit of the 2000 Charvin, though I have not had that vintage in a couple years. This is clearly too young to drink now and get the full effect. That said, I'm not that optimistic that in the end this will really develop into a top level example of Chateauneuf. I'll be intereested to see how this ages. Overall, I am less impressed with this than I was expecting to be. Hmmm. NOTE: I ordered another bottle at the same restaurant the next night (see TN), and it turned out to be a different and better experience...
