90 Points

Thursday, December 9, 2010 - This wine is just about translucent and medium-plus intense lipstick red, with some purple highlights. The nose is medium intense, showing a cotton candy wood-spice note and some darker fruits, while a smidge of Asian spices hints at the proximity of Vosne. As a known oakaphobe I should add that while the wood notes are clearly present, they are already well integrated at this early stage. Medium-plus bodied, this wine gets some lift from its pronounced acidity, while the medium tannins are just ripe enough to not grate. I should add that in the textural sense, there is a distinct presence of luxurious oak phenols, but that too does not diminish the textural sensation. The mid-palate is mainly black fruited, as medium-plus intense plums provide good balance to the structural elements. The finish provides 15-20 seconds of balance, after which the structure takes over. As they come, this is a well-bred youth with a penchant for exuberance. Puberty will be kicking in soon with its usual sullenness, so while 90 points are warranted for now, I see a point potential in about a decade or so..... TN Mike de Lange
