Thursday, May 22, 2014 - This is really outstanding, but young and in a slightly awkward stage currently. The nose is beautiful with cherry, raspberry, anise, fennel, violet, and an earthy, mushroomy undertone. The palate is initially disjointed with the robust tannins taking a forward role. With air the palate does blossom and come more into balance over about 90 min in the decanter. The tannins are still prevalent then, but more manageable. I suspect that this will be outstanding in 5-6 more years and will drink really well for 10 more after that.
