Thursday, November 20, 2014 - Decanted and began drinking immediately. Fairly open right out of the bottle. Pungent, slightly savory aromas of ripe but mellow cherry- and plum-like fruits, black tea, rooty earth, and spicy oak. Attractive, despite that the oak sticks out a bit. On the palate, however, it seems simple, and unbalanced - sweet ripe fruit, some spicy barrel flavors, and some tart acidity which is nice but insufficient to balance the sweetness; even the (short) finish is sweet. With 2 1/2 hours of air it's coming together and gaining smidgens of character, complexity, and length, but the sweetness remains fairly problematic. Enjoyable enough with something to snack on (almonds worked well), but somewhat disappointing overall.
