Saturday, April 14, 2012 - A touch of yellowing at the rim; deep, dark ruby color. A lot of complexity in the nose: blackberry, raspberry, licorice, leather, a touch of game meat, lots of spice, pepper, cigar box. Big, rich and structured in the mouth; decent concentration of fruit. Lots of spice and pepper flavors. Tannins are not totally resolved, but that does not detract from the elegance of the wine. A little tannic sting on the tongue. A nice long pepper-like finish. Of course this wine pairs very nicely with prime rib-eye broiled steak. The tannic influence seems to abate with the food. Lots of time left for this wine.
