93 Points

Friday, January 9, 2015 - Popped and poured, 4 Richebourgs served single blind, and enjoyed over a 3 hour Euro lunch. The lineup was DRC 07 and 08, 07 Hudelot-Noellat, 08 Mongeard-Mugneret. I ranked this wine 2nd.

Asian spice nose also gives this away as a DRC, but not an 08, in fact I guessed this was the 07 because of the lithe supple flavor profile. Soaring DRC nose of sandalwood, spices, and a floral rose petal element, very much on point. The palate is a little thin, closed and simple at this stage, with a drying finish that hints at the latent underlying fruit that may get unleashed with time. I liked the 07 better today, but it would not surprise me if the 08 surpasses it at maturity as there appears to be more under the surface.
